Canna Conversations: Jordan Watson Has All The Dope Moves

This month we sat down with master Canna-Marketer and content genius, Jordan Watson AKA @jordan_rockzz of  @getrockdmedia We discuss his inspirations, electric dance moves, ritual, and his go-to chicken pot pie recipe. Enjoy!

Rogue Paq (RP): How was cannabis regarded in your household growing up?

Jordan Watson (JW): It was very frowned upon. I grew up in the deep south of Louisiana as a Jehovah’s Witness, so pretty much all forms of self expression were frowned upon. God always came first, BUT that did not stop me from being the proverbial “wild child.” I was always inventing or creating. I had a love for plants and animals at a very young age and at one point I thought I’d become a scientist! That’s really funny in hindsight because I sucked at chemistry in high school; But I was always a great speaker and performer so I guess I eventually gravitated towards cannabis in my pursuit of knowledge of the unfamiliar.

RP: When did you begin consuming cannabis and why?

JW: Technically in 2016, but I did not create my relationship with cannabis until the pandemic hit in 2020. Since I had more time at home I got over my fear of edibles and started micro-dosing for pain to supplement the cbd topicals I was using.

RP: At Rogue Paq, we are all about ritual. What is your ritual?

JW: I  prefer edibles typically to treat back pain from a car accident as well as severe anxiety from said car accident. Also I love to listen to music and dance when I'm high. But usually I start my day with a light breakfast and I either infuse my oatmeal with sugar from Shoogies or add some Dose of Saucy [infused condiments] to my eggs. Occasionally I’ll have a joint throughout the day or in the evening, but I usually count on Kiva live resin gummies or Garden Society wine gummies to carry me throughout the day. Dance is a huge part of my ritual. It makes me feel grounded and connected with my inner self. It also really fills my cup. It helps me find clarity and balance in our crazy world. Usually I give the edible about an hour to kick in and I’ll have some music on shuffle until it kicks in then once I find a song that is resonating I just get lost in the music for an hour or so. Afterwards I go into a creative overdrive and work on other projects that may need my attention.

RP: Tell us if you have any dance training or if those moves are inherent?

JW: I came to dance later in life but I have been very fortunate to train under some pretty great mentors including JR Taylor, Cameron Lee, and many other heavy  hitters in the industry.

RP: What’s your favorite strain and why?

JW: I love a Blue Dream live resin edible, the high is absolutely delightful. Blue Dream for me just puts me in the best creative space and overall mood. I also just love the smell of the terps it gives off. As a former fragrance connoisseur I love smelling terps!

RP: What inspires you?

JW: BEYONCE [laughs] and music and watching other artists in their element and not just musicians but anyone with a passion for creating! Creators are true tastemakers, thought leaders, and change makers. Without us society would not progress. So I thoroughly enjoy being around other creators especially because true creators operate from a space of community not competition, we root for one another and that’s why I love being a creative.

I help brands identify their target consumer and find unique ways to connect and engage with those consumers in order to grow their brand in an organic and authentic way.

RP: You are known for your uplifting and energetic IG videos but you do so much more in the marketing space. Can you tell us about some of your other core services?

JW: I consider myself a creative community marketing consultant. I help brands identify their target consumer and find unique ways to connect and engage with those consumers in order to grow their brand in an organic and authentic way. Some of those services include Brand Development, Trend Forecasting, Social Media 101 training, editing 101 training, company audits, and power team building.

RP: How do you think creatively about marketing in the cannabis space since many cannabis businesses are blocked from traditional marketing efforts?

JW: My creativity comes from my years of experience both in entertainment and luxury retail. I am constantly developing unique ways to continue to shape the conversation around cannabis in the marketing and social media space. The most important thing I learned working in luxury retail is that there’s room for everyone to be successful. It's all a matter of telling your story in your own unique way and finding what holes you fill in the market an,d most of all, the power of CONSISTENCY! You don’t go to the gym once and come out buff, you have to be willing to try, fail and get back up and try again!

RP: We want to know more about YOU. What are you reading?

JW: HBR’s (Harvard Business Review) 10 Must Reads On Managing Yourself as well as The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, and Influencer: The New Science of Leading Change.

I love a blue dream live resin edible, the high is absolutely delightful.

RP: Do you like to cook and, if so, can you share a recipe?

JW: I love to cook! My favorites are simple recipes like chicken pot pie. I dice and grill seasoned chicken breast, add in mixed veggies and cream of chicken soup, and spoon the filling into Pillsbury biscuit dough shaped into a muffin tin! You’ll thank me later.

RP: What yearly canna-driven event is your favorite and why?

JW: ANY EVENT HOSTED BY HAEJIN CHEN AKA @Bigbadwolfsf Out of the over 50+ cannabis events I attended last year, all 3 BBW events were in the top 5 for me. The vibes are always great, the food is delicious and Haejin’s community is super loving and they know how to DANCE!

The cannabis industry needs to stop hiring people that DO NOT USE CANNABIS and putting them in positions to market a brand to consumers when they don't consume the product themselves.

RP: Do you believe cannabis is medicine? If yes, why?

JW: Yes, I use cannabis to treat my pain and anxiety and I have helped plenty others find relief through cannabis which is why I love this community. I also had the privilege to open the first CBD store in L.A. and we expanded to 3 doors in 16 months with myself as the head buyer/manager. That’s when I realized this is truly medicine: when I saw how many people I helped and that’s what made me commit to making a difference in this industry.

RP: What is your role in achieving social justice within the cannabis space?

JW: My mission is to see more of the people at the ground level  reflected at the top. The current foundation is built on cages filled with black and brown people that look like me, meanwhile the top of the industry has become an overtly white male “boys club.” I would love to see that changed in my lifetime. Another mission: every single male that has done some sort of wrong towards women needs to be held accountable and ejected from the space. That would be a nice little icing-on-the-cake moment as well!

RP: If we wanted to follow your top 2-5 cannabis pages, what would they be?

JW: @doseofsaucy @cannaclusive @bigbadwolfsf @p.u.s.s.y.w.e.e.d @thecannabiscutie

RP: What do you think that the cannabis space is most in need of?

JW: Testimonial Talent. The cannabis industry needs to stop hiring people that DO NOT USE CANNABIS and putting them in positions to market a brand to consumers when they don't consume the product themselves. It doesn't matter if you worked for Adidas or Subaru. We aren't selling shoes and cars, we're selling medicine and there is a difference.
