It's a Rogue World feat. Linalool Terpene 3.24.25

It's finally spring! Even though today is rainy and cold the longer days are giving us hope that we'll see flowers soon and experience the restorative effects of the season.

Speaking of restorative effects, this week we'll look more closely at the terpene linalool. We'll also introduce you to a riveting book called The Marriage Portrait, share a recipe for how to make hummus at home, and obsess over a pair of green satin flats for the spring season.

Canna Focus: Linalool Terpene

Terpenes are compounds that lend plants (for our purposes - cannabis) their characteristic smell and flavor. Terpenes are important because they also influence the user's end effects for the type of cannabis consumed. This happens because terpenes interact with the endocannabinoid system. Due to this interaction, terpenes are credited with influencing mood, stress levels, immune function, and the nervous system. You may be asking: but what about cannabinoids? Terpenes and cannabinoids, like THC, work together (often referred to as the "entourage effect") to enhance the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

Linalool is known for its sedative qualities and its floral, slightly spicy, and woody aroma. It is often associated with lavender. In addition to its calming effects, Linalool has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. These, when combined with other cannabinoids (the entourage effect) may contribute to pain relief for patients suffering from arthritis, migraines, or neuropathic pain.

Our Current Read: The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell

This novel kept us on the edge of our seat! It's 1550s Florence and Lucrezia, a grand duke's daughter, is unexpectedly married off to the ruler of Ferrara after her sister's death. She's just a child and yet she's sent into a foreign court which she struggles to understand. She also struggles to understand her husband, Alfonso, whose charm masks a potentially ruthless nature. But one thing is clear to Lucrezia: she must produce an heir. Her future, and safety, depend on it. 10/10

Nourish Your Body: An Easy Recipe for Hummus

We all love it and it is so simple to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15oz) can chickpeas, drained
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons cold water
  • Dash ground paprika

How To:

  1. In the bowl of a food processor, combine the tahini and lemon juice and process for 1 minute
  2. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, then process for 30 seconds more. to “whip” or “cream” the tahini
  3. Add the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, and a 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the whipped tahini and lemon juice. Process for 30 seconds, scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, and then process for another 30 seconds or until well blended
  4. Drain the chickpeas. Add half of the chickpeas to the food processor and process for 1 minute. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, then add the remaining chickpeas and process them until thick and relatively smooth, 1 to 2 minutes
  5. If the hummus is still too thick, slowly add 2 to 3 tablespoons of cold water to the food processor until you reach the perfect consistency.
  6. Drizzle with olive oil and top with paprika and enjoy!
